As previously announced, the party’s leadership, including President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had given their endorsement to Senators Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau for the roles of Senate President and Deputy, respectively.
Following a closed-door meeting with members of the Stability Group of the 10th Senate at the campaign office in Abuja, Oshiomhole addressed the media, stating, “As a former National Chairman of the party, I have no choice but to support the position of the party leadership and the President-elect. It is not about personal ambitions at this moment but ensuring stability for the realization of the President-elect’s renewed hope agenda for Nigerians.”
Responding to Oshiomhole’s stance, Senator Jibrin Barau, the party’s preferred candidate for the position of Deputy Senate President, praised Oshiomhole for embracing the party’s decision, highlighting his instrumental role in the emergence of the current Senate President, Ahmed Lawan. Barau expressed confidence that Oshiomhole’s involvement would strengthen their position and attract more support.
In his response, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the party’s preferred candidate for the Senate leadership, expressed gratitude to Oshiomhole for supporting his aspirations as directed by the party leadership. Akpabio shared his hopes for victory on June 13 and emphasized the importance of working together to bring stability to the government under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
