Nollywood actresses Eucharia Anunobi and Rachael Okonkwo have joined the Enugu State Government after Governor Peter Mbah appointed them to political positions within his administration.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the appointments were part of 101 new appointments approved by Governor Mbah and announced by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia.

The appointments comprise seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants, with the two actresses assigned roles related to women mobilisation and the creative industry.

Rachael Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development. The actress, whose full name is Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo, is widely known for her work in Nollywood, particularly her role in the popular Nkoli Nwa Nsukka film series.

Okonkwo, who hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, has built a career in the Nigerian film industry and will now be involved in matters concerning the development of the state’s film and broader creative sector.

Meanwhile, veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was appointed Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North Zone.

Anunobi became prominent in Nollywood during the 1990s and has appeared in numerous Nigerian films throughout her acting career. She later became an evangelist while continuing her involvement in public and social activities.

The appointments mark a transition into public service for the two entertainment personalities, with Okonkwo expected to focus on the creative industry while Anunobi will be involved in women mobilisation within the Enugu-North zone.

The development has attracted attention, particularly amid the increasing involvement of entertainers and other public figures in government and public service appointments across Nigeria.
