2027: We’re Prepared To Win– Yilwatda Declares As APC Steps Up Election Plans

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections, saying the ruling party is positioned to compete strongly against its political opponents.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Yilwatda made the remarks while briefing journalists at the end of a three-day APC retreat in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he spoke about the party’s preparations and electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 polls.

The APC chairman dismissed suggestions that emerging opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), currently pose a major electoral threat to the ruling party. He argued that recent election results did not support narratives suggesting that the opposition had gained significant ground.

Yilwatda pointed to the APC’s performance in recent elections as part of the basis for his confidence. He referenced the September 19, 2026 bye-elections, in which the APC won four of the five seats contested across Gombe, Kano, Delta and Bauchi states, while the remaining seat was won by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

He also cited the party’s performances in previous elections in Ekiti and Osun, arguing that the results demonstrated the APC’s continued presence across different parts of the country.

“We went to Ekiti and came first; the party that came second was the PDP, not the so-called opposition, ADC and NDC. We went to Osun and we became second,” Yilwatda said.

He maintained that the APC was not overly concerned about the opposition parties and described them as participants in the forthcoming elections rather than serious competitors to the ruling party.

“We are very confident that our party can win this election; we are prepared to win the 2027 election,” he said.

Yilwatda further referred to the Ganye State Constituency election in Adamawa State, using the APC’s performance there to reinforce his argument about the party’s electoral strength. INEC had previously listed Ganye among the constituencies requiring a bye-election.

The APC chairman also said the party remained well organised at the grassroots level and was strengthening its structures ahead of the 2027 elections. He added that the recent retreat provided an opportunity for party leaders to review the organisation of the APC from the national level down to polling-unit structures.

Yilwatda’s comments come as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 elections, with INEC’s current election calendar scheduling the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, followed by governorship and state assembly elections in February.
