South Africa In Shock As Fresh Mass Shootings Leave 27 People D**d

At least 27 people have been killed and 26 others injured in two separate mass shootings in South Africa, prompting a police manhunt for the attackers as the country grapples with another wave of deadly gun violence.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the first attack occurred on Saturday night at a tavern in Wedela township, west of Johannesburg. Police said eight armed men stormed the venue at about 9:30 p.m. and opened fire on patrons who were drinking both outside and inside the establishment.

Seventeen people, comprising 13 men and four women, were killed in the attack, while 15 others sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to medical facilities for treatment. Police said the attackers were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols.

The suspects allegedly searched some patrons and took their mobile phones before fleeing in two unidentified vehicles. Police also said two vehicles were set ablaze before the attackers escaped. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests had been made in connection with the incident at the time of the reports.

Hours later, another shooting occurred at an entertainment venue in Lwandle township on the outskirts of Cape Town. Police said 10 people were killed while 11 others were injured in the second attack. Five victims died at the scene, while another five later succumbed to their injuries while being transported to medical facilities.

South African police have launched investigations into both incidents and deployed detectives and specialised units to identify and apprehend those responsible. No arrests had been reported in either case.

The latest shootings add to a series of deadly attacks recorded in South Africa in recent days, highlighting the country’s continuing struggle with violent crime and the widespread availability of firearms. Authorities have previously linked some violent incidents to gang activity and organised crime, although police have not yet established a motive for the two latest shootings.
