Education Alert: FG Unveils Final List Of Approved Textbooks For Schools

The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of textbooks approved for use in Nigerian schools between 2026 and 2028 following the completion of the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.

The approved materials cover Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1) and Senior Secondary School 1 (SS 1).

According to Bush Radio Academy, the ministry disclosed the development in a statement issued by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

The ministry said each approved textbook has been assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code to facilitate identification, monitoring and verification of the materials.

It explained that the codes contain key information, including the title of the textbook, author or authors, publisher and year of publication.

According to the ministry, the tracking system is designed to improve transparency and accountability in the selection, procurement and use of approved instructional materials across the education sector.

The ministry noted that the process of generating and assigning the unique codes contributed to the time required to complete and validate the final approved list.

It further disclosed that the textbook ranking exercise is being conducted in phases, with the second phase expected to cover Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2.

The ministry said the same identification and tracking system would be applied to textbooks approved during the second phase of the exercise.

It urged publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies and other relevant stakeholders to consult the official approved list before selecting or purchasing textbooks for the affected classes.

The ministry said the exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure that teachers and learners have access to quality instructional materials that align with the approved national curriculum.

It added that the initiative was also intended to strengthen transparency and accountability in the provision and distribution of textbooks in Nigerian schools.

The ministry directed all relevant stakeholders to comply with the approved list when procuring and using textbooks for the specified class levels.

The complete 2026–2028 list, including the Ranking/QR Tracking Code assigned to each approved textbook, has been made available through the ministry’s designated platform.
