Tinubu Returns To Nigeria, Breaks Silence On His Health After Four-Week Vacation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation, assuring Nigerians that he is healthy, strong and ready to resume his official duties.

Tinubu arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos from Paris on Tuesday evening, September 29, after spending time in London and France. His return came amid public and political discussions over the length of his stay abroad and concerns raised by some critics about his health.

Responding to journalists who asked about reports concerning his health, the President dismissed the claims as politically motivated and maintained that he remained fit to carry out his responsibilities.

“Rumours will always emanate from politics. I am hale and strong. I am ready to work. The fact remains that I am here, healthy, sound and ready to go,” Tinubu said.

The President left Nigeria on August 30 for what was initially announced as a three-week working vacation. He travelled first to the United Kingdom before proceeding to Paris, where he held meetings and engagements during his extended stay.

His prolonged absence generated political debate, particularly after his decision not to personally attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the international gathering, while the Presidency maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with officials at home and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.

During his time in France, Tinubu met with French President Emmanuel Macron and business figures, including Vincent Bolloré. He was also involved in discussions surrounding investment projects, including the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Economic Zone in Ogun State.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the President’s return has brought renewed attention to the issues surrounding his extended stay abroad, with the Presidency continuing to describe the trip as a working vacation while opposition figures have questioned aspects of his absence.

Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1. The Presidency said he would attend official engagements in the state before returning to Abuja after his scheduled political and other activities in Lagos.
