Sowunmi Breaks Silence On Tinubu’s Health, Says President Is In Good Shape
Convener of The Alternative, Segun Sowunmi, has dismissed claims questioning President Bola Tinubu’s health, insisting that the president is in good health and of sound mind.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Sowunmi made the remarks on Thursday during a town hall meeting in Ijebu North East Local Government Area of Ogun State, where he also urged Nigerians to reject rumours and what he described as negative narratives about the country.
Sowunmi was responding to claims that Tinubu’s absence from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the third consecutive time was linked to a medical trip and concerns about his ability to continue in office or contest future elections.
The Alternative convener maintained that the president’s absence from the UNGA did not necessarily mean that Nigeria was not represented, noting that the Vice President could adequately represent the president at international engagements.
He questioned whether Tinubu should have left important economic engagements in Nigeria simply to attend the UNGA and appear at the event.
Sowunmi specifically referenced investments reportedly linked to Ogun State, including a $700 billion gas investment and a $17 billion seaport project, arguing that such economic developments deserved attention.
He also criticised Nigerians who, in his view, focus excessively on negative developments while overlooking progress and investment opportunities in the country.
“You cannot indulge in continuous self-hate to the extent that all you’re looking for is bad news. The president is in good health. The president is in sound mind,” Sowunmi said.
He further accused some opposition politicians of celebrating negative developments while failing to acknowledge positive developments in the country. Sowunmi urged Nigerians to avoid what he described as rumour-mongering and divisive rhetoric, arguing that the country needs unity and constructive engagement to attract further development.
The Alternative convener also expressed support for Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, while urging voters in Ogun East Senatorial District to make what he described as a deliberate choice in the forthcoming election.
His comments come amid continuing public discussions about Tinubu’s health, official travel and representation at international events. The claims regarding the president’s health expressed by Sowunmi are his own assessment and were not independently established by the statement provided.
