Visa Deadline Puts Nigerian Man In UK In Dilemma: Should I Marry Or Leave?

Published

A Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom has reportedly found himself facing a difficult choice between maintaining his financial independence and pursuing marriage with a UK citizen as his visa deadline approaches.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the situation was shared by relationship expert @jon_d_doee on X, formerly known as Twitter. The expert said the 39-year-old man moved to the UK as a student in 2024 and has since been living with his sister, an arrangement that has reportedly helped him keep his living expenses low.

The man now works full-time and reportedly saves about £1,500 every month.

However, his long-term stay in the UK remains uncertain. According to the relationship expert, he has until January 2028 to secure a sponsored job or leave the country, with sponsorship opportunities reportedly becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.

The situation reportedly became more complicated after the man met a 39-year-old UK citizen originally from Nigeria. The woman is said to be a single mother of one who has suggested that he move in with her and has spoken about marriage and having another child.

However, discussions about their finances reportedly revealed significant differences in their expectations. According to the post, the woman does not support an equal 50/50 arrangement for household expenses and expects the man to take on most of the financial responsibilities.

The relationship expert claimed that calculations showed the man’s monthly savings could drop from approximately £1,500 to just £300 if he moved in with the woman and adopted the proposed financial arrangement.

The man reportedly has two children in Nigeria from a previous marriage that ended following infidelity. At this stage of his life, he is said to place greater importance on achieving financial freedom than getting married.

The relationship expert outlined two possible paths for the man. One option would be to remain with his sister, continue saving about £1,500 monthly and potentially leave the UK in January 2028 with approximately £35,000.

The other option would be to move in with the single mother and potentially marry her, but with a substantial reduction in his ability to save money.

The situation has generated discussions on X, with users offering different opinions about the man’s financial priorities, relationship prospects and immigration circumstances. The relationship expert ultimately left the decision open to his followers, inviting them to share what advice they would give the man.
