Anambra Operation: Three Kidnap Victims Freed As Troops Dismantle Terrorist Camp

Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have dismantled a hideout allegedly used by terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims in Anambra State.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the operation followed the abduction of three people around the Osakwa General Area in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state. Troops of Operation UDO KA, working alongside members of the Anambra Vigilante Group, launched a rescue operation and successfully recovered the victims.

The Nigerian Army said that on October 1, troops subsequently conducted a snap operation during which they arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Mr Sunday Obi. According to the military, the suspect provided information that helped security personnel locate the criminal syndicate’s camp at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area, across the Isieke waterside.

Acting on the intelligence, combined troops reportedly deployed canoes to cross the waterways and reach the suspected hideout. The military said the troops engaged the occupants with superior firepower, forcing them to flee, with some reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds.

The operation resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles with magazines, three pump-action guns and three locally fabricated Dane guns. Troops also recovered 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and two cartridges, alongside materials suspected to have been intended for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices.

The military further disclosed that troops recovered several items believed to have supported the group’s operational and logistical activities. These included a solar generator, power bank, car battery, two motorcycle batteries, two solar panels and two mobile phones.

According to the Army, the recovered equipment provides further insight into the logistical network allegedly sustaining kidnapping and terrorist activities in the area. The military said the intelligence obtained from the operation would support ongoing efforts to identify and dismantle the wider criminal network operating across the region.
