Tension In Kano As Police Announce Ban On Durbar, Horse Riding

Published

The Kano State Police Command has reiterated the ban on durbar and horse-riding activities in public places, warning individuals, traditional institutions and organisations planning such events to comply with the directive.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, restated the restriction while speaking with journalists at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano State.

Bakori explained that the ban was introduced by the Kano State Government after consultations with relevant security agencies as part of measures aimed at protecting public peace and maintaining law and order.

The commissioner expressed concern over reported violations of the directive, noting that the security concerns that led to the restriction remained in place.

He said a joint security meeting had resolved that individuals, institutions and organisations intending to organise durbar or horse-riding activities in public places must submit written requests to the police command at least 72 hours before the proposed event.

According to Bakori, the advance notification would allow the police and other security agencies to assess the security implications of planned events and make appropriate arrangements to protect participants and members of the public.

The commissioner urged residents, traditional institutions and event organisers to respect the directive and cooperate with security agencies to ensure peace and stability across the state.

Bakori further assured residents that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, would continue efforts to protect lives and property while maintaining law and order throughout Kano State.
