Odumeje Sparks Reactions With Bold Message: Nigeria Needs Developers
Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has criticised the notion that Nigeria’s primary calling is to prayer, arguing that the country should place greater emphasis on development and empowering its citizens.
The controversial cleric made the remarks in a video circulating online, where he disagreed with a pastor who reportedly described Nigeria as a nation with a “calling to prayers.”
According to Bush Radio Academy, Odumeje questioned the idea, asking why Nigerians should be described primarily as prayer warriors rather than people capable of contributing to the development of the country.
“I heard one pastor talking nonsense, saying Nigeria has a calling to prayers. Which kind of calling is that? Are we prayer warriors?” he said.
Odumeje further argued that young Nigerians should be encouraged to acquire skills, innovate and contribute to national development instead of becoming overly dependent on religious leaders.
He also attributed what he described as the proliferation of churches across the country to bad governance, alleging that some religious figures take advantage of young people by encouraging them to rely heavily on pastors.
“We have a calling to be developers. Bad government is what has caused all these churches across the country. They want to deceive the youths so that everyone will turn to pastors,” he said.
His remarks have sparked discussions online, with Nigerians expressing differing views about the role of religion, prayer and development in the country’s progress.
