I Almost Gave Up — Mother Reveals How Daughter Survived After Swallowing Carpenter’s Nail

Published

A mother has recounted the frightening experience her family went through after her daughter swallowed a two-inch carpenter’s nail when she was just one year old.

The woman shared the experience on Facebook, revealing that the incident occurred about two years ago and initially left her fearing for her daughter’s life.

According to her account, an X-ray showed the nail lodged inside the child’s stomach in a position that appeared dangerous. She said seeing the image was extremely distressing and made her fear that her daughter might require emergency surgery.

The mother, however, described the child’s survival as a series of miracles, noting that the nail had passed through her throat without becoming lodged or causing an apparent injury to her lungs.

She explained that doctors initially prepared to operate on the child after assessing the situation. However, the procedure was postponed until the following morning after the anaesthesia team reportedly said they were not ready and lacked some of the required items.

According to the mother, another X-ray taken later showed that the nail had changed position and was now pointing downward, unlike its earlier position, which she considered more dangerous.

She said the change in position eventually meant that her daughter did not have to undergo the surgery that had initially been planned.

Reflecting on the experience, the mother attributed her daughter’s recovery to divine intervention and expressed gratitude that the child emerged from the incident without any lasting physical scars.

She also revealed that her daughter had faced challenges even before birth, explaining that the pregnancy was affected by placenta previa and that an emergency Caesarean section was performed after the mother experienced prolonged bleeding.

The woman said her daughter is now healthy and doing well, describing her survival from both the pregnancy complications and the nail incident as a testimony of faith.

She concluded by celebrating the child’s recovery and encouraging others to join her in celebrating what she described as her daughter’s victory.
