Tinubu Breaks Silence After Military Aircraft Crash, Orders Immediate Investigation
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep grief following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft near a naval base in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Monday morning.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the aircraft was reportedly on a routine flight from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.
Tinubu commiserated with the families of the 25 passengers and seven crew members aboard the aircraft, as well as the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.
The President described the incident as a painful moment for the Armed Forces and the country, acknowledging the sacrifices made by military personnel in the course of protecting Nigeria.
Tinubu directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, stressing that the probe should establish the cause of the accident and help prevent a recurrence.
The President also praised the Nigerian Air Force for promptly activating search-and-rescue operations following the incident.
He equally commended first responders and the Ondo State Government for their swift response and efforts at the crash site.
Tinubu prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the crash and asked God to grant their families, colleagues and the Nigerian Air Force the strength to cope with the loss.
The President further reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Nigerian Air Force as it carries out its responsibilities of safeguarding the nation.
