Estranged Wife Drags Ex-Husband To Court After He Allegedly Moves New Wife Into Her Apartment

An estranged wife, Jamila Murtala, has taken her former husband, Saminu, before the Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State over an alleged dispute involving a rented apartment and her personal belongings.

Jamila told the court that she had been happily married to Saminu before their marriage was dissolved, but alleged that her former husband subsequently denied her access to the apartment she had rented and prevented her from retrieving her belongings.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Jamila said she locked the apartment and travelled to inform her uncle about the divorce shortly after the court dissolved the marriage.

She alleged that upon her return, she discovered that Saminu had changed the locks to the apartment and moved his new wife into the property.

“Immediately the court dissolved our marriage, I locked my apartment and travelled to inform my uncle about it. However, when I returned home, to my greatest surprise, I discovered that he had changed the locks and moved his second wife in,” she told the court.

Jamila further told the court that she paid ₦12,000 to secure the apartment in 2020 and claimed that her former husband had promised to refund the money but allegedly failed to do so.

She is therefore asking the court to order Saminu to refund the amount she paid for the apartment and grant her access to her belongings.

“I pray the court for an order for a refund of the money I paid for the apartment and the unconditional release of my belongings,” she said.

The case centres on Jamila’s claims over the apartment and her personal possessions following the dissolution of the marriage. The court will determine the appropriate resolution based on the evidence and submissions presented by the parties.
