Lagos In Shock As Gunmen Storm Bus Stop, K!ll NURTW Member
A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), identified as Kamoru Omokoye, has been killed in a suspected cult-related attack at Abijo Bus Stop in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
Omokoye was reportedly shot in the head around 9am on Sunday after two men allegedly arrived at the bus stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350 and opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.
According to Bush Radio Academy, a police source said the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Epe following the attack but was later pronounced dead by a doctor.
The source said detectives visited the scene after receiving information about the incident and conducted a search of the surrounding area in an effort to identify and apprehend the suspects.
A separate account by an anti-cultism advocacy platform identified the deceased by his nickname, Zobo, and claimed that he was sitting at a drinking spot near the bus stop when the attackers arrived and began shooting.
The platform further alleged that several people sustained gunshot injuries during the incident, while Omokoye was fatally wounded.
Omokoye was reportedly previously working around Awoyaya Bus Stop before moving to GRA Bus Stop. He was also said to have an eight-month-old child.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and disclosed that an investigation had commenced.
The killing comes amid concerns over alleged cult-related violence in the community, following another reported fatal incident in the area in September involving a mechanic who was allegedly lured to a location under the guise of repairing a Mercedes-Benz before being taken into a bush and attacked.
Police authorities are expected to continue investigations into the latest shooting and work towards identifying and arresting those responsible.
