Rivers Politics Heats Up As Sokonte Davies Abandons ADC, Rejoins APC
Former House of Representatives member and ex-governorship aspirant, Sokonte Davies, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after recently leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to Bush Radio Academy, Davies announced his return to the ruling party on Wednesday, following consultations with his family, political associates, constituents and political elders.
The former lawmaker, who was a founding member of the ADC and had previously played a role in the establishment of the APC, said he carefully considered where he could make the greatest contribution to the political and economic development of Rivers State.
In a statement titled “Return to the Progressive Family: My Decision to Rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Davies said his decision followed extensive consultations and deep reflection on his political future.
He explained that his return was motivated by his desire to contribute to progressive governance, support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and promote stability in Rivers State.
Davies described his return to the APC as a “homecoming,” stressing that he remained committed to the principles upon which the party was founded, including democracy, social justice, true federalism, inclusive development and respect for the rule of law.
The former ADC chieftain also thanked the leadership and members of the ADC for the opportunity to serve during his time with the party, insisting that his decision to leave was not driven by animosity.
He said political differences should not translate into personal hostility, adding that politics should remain a platform for the exchange of ideas.
Davies pledged to work with APC leaders and members across the ward, local government, state and national levels, promising to deploy his experience, political networks and relationships toward advancing the party’s programmes and supporting the government’s development agenda.
He also appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, while encouraging Nigerians who share his political ideals to join the APC and work toward what he described as a better future.
The former governorship aspirant expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a warm reception following his decision to return to the APC.
Davies also thanked APC National Vice Chairman, Chief Victor Giadom, whom he credited with facilitating his return, as well as other party leaders and members for their support.
He concluded by expressing confidence that his return would strengthen efforts toward building a better Nigeria and Rivers State.
