Crowd Goes Wild After Man Allegedly Uses Worn-Out Tyres In POS Scam
A young man narrowly escaped being lynched after he was allegedly caught attempting to defraud a Point of Sale (POS) operator using old and damaged car tyres.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the suspect reportedly approached the POS operator and pretended that he wanted to carry out a cash withdrawal.
He allegedly claimed that an electronic funds transfer he had attempted had failed and subsequently presented several packaged items, which he described as brand-new car tyres.
The suspect reportedly asked the POS operator to accept the tyres as collateral and give him their equivalent cash value, claiming that he was in a hurry and needed the money urgently.
However, the transaction reportedly raised suspicion, prompting people around the area to intervene and inspect the items he had presented.
Upon examination, the packages were allegedly found to contain old, heavily worn and damaged car tyres rather than the new tyres the suspect had claimed they were.
The discovery reportedly angered residents and passersby, who quickly gathered around the suspect and apprehended him.
Tension reportedly escalated as the crowd allegedly attempted to subject the young man to jungle justice over the suspected fraud.
He was, however, reportedly rescued from the angry crowd before the situation could become more serious.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for caution among POS operators and members of the public when accepting valuables or collateral from strangers during financial transactions.
