Mayorkun Sparks Debate, Says Finding A New Girlfriend Is Easier Than Finding A True Friend
Nigerian singer Mayorkun has explained why the end of a friendship can be more emotionally painful than the breakup of a romantic relationship.
The singer shared his views during an appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, where he argued that people often invest more emotional energy and personal effort in friendships than they do in romantic relationships.
According to Mayorkun, genuine friendships are built on a deep personal connection, companionship and mutual affection rather than romantic or sexual attraction. He noted that people choose their friends because they genuinely enjoy their company and appreciate them as individuals.
The singer explained that while romantic relationships may involve sexual intimacy, friendships are largely sustained by the bond between two people and their desire to spend time together.
He added that people do not necessarily expect material benefits from their friends but maintain those relationships because of the affection and connection they share.
Mayorkun further suggested that finding a new romantic partner may be easier than building a genuine friendship after experiencing a painful fallout with a close friend.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the singer also observed that the emotional impact of a friendship breakup can make some people reluctant to form new friendships, as they may become more cautious about trusting others.
He noted that recovering from such an experience can be particularly difficult for people who take their friendships seriously and invest deeply in those relationships.
Mayorkun’s comments highlight the emotional value of platonic relationships and the difficulties people may face when a once-strong friendship comes to an end.
