Oshodi Clothes Seller Sparks Outrage After Allegedly Raising ₦1,000 Jeans To ₦10,000

A Nigerian woman has sparked reactions online after recounting how a clothes seller in Oshodi, Lagos State, allegedly advertised jeans for ₦1,000 and polo tops for ₦700 before demanding significantly higher prices from her and her colleague.

The woman, who shared the experience on social media, explained that she and her colleague stopped at the trader’s spot after hearing him attract customers by ringing a bell and announcing his prices.

According to her account, the seller repeatedly advertised his merchandise, telling passers-by that jeans were available for ₦1,000 and polo tops for ₦700.

Her colleague was reportedly impressed by the prices and remarked that the clothes looked like quality items being sold at bargain rates. Encouraged by the announcement, both women joined other shoppers to select clothes from the trader.

The woman said her colleague picked five pairs of jeans and 10 tops, while she selected three pairs of jeans and four tops.

However, the situation reportedly took an unexpected turn when they finished shopping and asked the seller to calculate their bills.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman claimed the trader asked her to pay ₦61,000, explaining that the tops advertised for ₦700 actually cost ₦7,000 each, while the jeans announced at ₦1,000 were priced at ₦10,000 per pair.

Her colleague, who had selected more items, was allegedly given a bill of ₦120,000.

The unexpected prices reportedly angered her colleague, who challenged the trader over the difference between the amounts he had advertised and the prices he demanded after they had selected their clothes.

The woman quoted her colleague as questioning why the seller would announce misleadingly low prices instead of stating the actual cost of the items from the beginning.

According to the account, the trader allegedly responded with insults rather than resolving the disagreement.

Her colleague subsequently turned to other shoppers and passers-by, warning them about the prices she claimed the seller was charging.

She reportedly shouted, “Make una no come o! Jean na ₦10k and tops na ₦7k!”

The warning allegedly attracted attention and prompted several customers who had already selected clothes to abandon their items and leave the seller’s stall.

The woman said the incident appeared to upset the trader as customers reportedly began dropping the merchandise they had picked.

The account has generated discussion online about pricing transparency and the importance of clearly communicating the cost of goods before customers make their selections. However, the claims remain based on the woman’s account, and the seller’s response was not included in the story.
