Ronaldo In Trouble! Portugal Suspends Superstar Over Training Camp Exit

Published

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) as disciplinary proceedings continue over his departure from the national team’s training camp in Copenhagen on September 30.

The decision leaves the Al-Nassr forward facing the possibility of further sanctions as the federation investigates the circumstances surrounding his exit from the camp.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the FPF’s Disciplinary Council confirmed that it had opened proceedings against Ronaldo on October 9, following the receipt of relevant information two days earlier.

The case was subsequently referred to the federation’s Disciplinary Investigation Commission and classified as urgent. However, the FPF said details of the proceedings would remain confidential while the investigation was ongoing.

Ronaldo’s departure from the training camp reportedly followed a disagreement with Portugal’s head coach, Jorge Jesus, over his role in the team. The incident sparked questions about the relationship between the captain and the coach.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner later acknowledged that leaving the camp was a mistake and accepted responsibility for his actions.

“I should not have done it. The responsibility is exclusively mine,” Ronaldo said in a statement quoted in reports about the incident.

The Portuguese superstar also reportedly apologised to his teammates and indicated that he was prepared to accept any punishment imposed by the relevant authorities.

Despite the controversy, Ronaldo has ruled out retiring from international football and remains willing to return to the national team after the disciplinary matter is resolved.

Reports also indicated that the forward had expressed his readiness to rejoin Portugal’s squad, suggesting that the incident had not changed his desire to continue representing his country.

The provisional suspension does not represent a final disciplinary verdict. The FPF is yet to announce the outcome of its investigation or specify what additional punishment, if any, Ronaldo could face.

The development has placed the Portugal captain under scrutiny as the federation works to establish the circumstances surrounding his departure and determine the appropriate disciplinary response.
