We Have To Win Elections! Amaechi Sends Strong Message To ADC Campaign Council
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged party members to put aside internal disagreements over the party’s primaries and concentrate on winning the forthcoming election.
Amaechi gave the charge on Friday in Abuja during the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, stressing that electoral victory should take priority over disputes among party members.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the former Rivers State governor warned that continued arguments over the party’s primary elections could undermine its chances of defeating rival political parties.
“If we are still quarrelling about the party’s primary, it is over. We have to win elections,” Amaechi said.
He also cautioned against underestimating the possibility of defeating an incumbent administration, noting that governments in power sometimes mistakenly believe they are too strong to be removed through elections.
“Incumbent governments often make the mistake of believing they are invincible and cannot be removed,” he stated.
Drawing from his experience in previous political campaigns during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) era, Amaechi recalled incidents in which he was allegedly prevented from travelling by security officials.
He recounted an encounter at Akure Airport where, according to him, a military officer advised him to leave the area because his safety could not be guaranteed.
Amaechi said the experience did not discourage him from pursuing his political activities, insisting that opposition politicians must be prepared to confront difficulties while campaigning.
He also described another incident at the same airport in which he alleged that he was prevented from flying. He said the situation was eventually resolved following the intervention of political leaders.
The ADC vice-presidential candidate maintained that such experiences demonstrated the need for courage, determination and cooperation among opposition members seeking political change.
He urged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to learn from previous political struggles, remain united and focus on their respective responsibilities as the party prepares for the election.
Amaechi’s message centred on the need for the ADC to resolve its internal differences, strengthen its campaign efforts and avoid allowing disagreements over party processes to distract it from its electoral objectives.
