Nightmare For Super Eagles Goalkeeper! Okoye’s Mistake Proves Costly In Udinese Defeat

Published

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye endured a difficult outing on Monday, October 12, as Udinese suffered a 2-1 defeat to Torino, extending their losing streak to four consecutive matches in the Italian Serie A.

Okoye’s costly error contributed to Udinese’s defeat after substitute Sandro Kulenovic scored the decisive goal in the 67th minute. The Nigerian goalkeeper mistimed an attempt to clear the ball and collided with his teammate, Nicolo Bertola, leaving Kulenovic with an open goal to finish.

Torino had taken the lead in the 36th minute through Daniel Bragança, but Udinese responded seven minutes later when Jurgen Ekkelenkamp found the net to restore parity before the interval.

However, the second-half defensive mix-up proved decisive, allowing Torino to secure all three points and leaving Udinese without a victory as their difficult run continued.

Udinese head coach Kosta Runjaic acknowledged the costly nature of the mistake and accepted responsibility for the team’s disappointing results. He compared the incident to an error that contributed to their defeat against Cagliari before the international break, pointing to communication and awareness as areas that needed improvement.

Runjaic admitted that defensive mistakes had been hurting his team, while also expressing disappointment with their attacking performance. According to the manager, Udinese failed to create enough scoring opportunities, and Torino’s opening goal came from a set piece.

Despite the latest setback, the coach promised to keep his players united and maintain their confidence as they work towards ending their losing streak. He stressed the importance of supporting one another during the difficult period.

The defeat leaves Udinese with four points from six league matches, increasing the pressure on the team to improve their performances and results in the coming fixtures.

Runjaic, however, found positives in the performances of defender Oumar Solet and goalscorer Ekkelenkamp. He also expressed hope that the return of injured players would strengthen the squad and help the team regain its form.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Udinese must address their defensive lapses and improve their attacking output if they are to halt their slide and recover from their disappointing start to the Serie A campaign.
