Super Falcons Target Second Win Against Comoros As Eguavoen Demands Discipline
Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has urged his players to remain disciplined and secure another victory against Comoros in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie.
Nigeria are scheduled to host Comoros at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday, October 13, following their 2-0 victory in the first leg last Saturday.
Eguavoen said the team would aim to score more goals and complete a double victory over their opponents, while maintaining the tactical organisation that helped them secure the first-leg win.
“We are enjoying a two-goal advantage, but we will try as much as possible to see how we can wrap it up by winning tomorrow’s game. Maybe one, maybe two, maybe three,” the coach said during a press conference.
He emphasised that although scoring goals remained important, maintaining the team’s structure and securing victory were his primary objectives.
“I’m interested in goals, but the structure of the team is what I’m really interested in. The bottom line is to win, and we will try to do that,” he added.
The interim coach also indicated that changes could be made to Nigeria’s starting line-up, with several players potentially getting opportunities to feature in the return fixture.
According to Eguavoen, 27 of the 28 players invited for the qualifying tie were in camp, including approximately 14 players receiving their first invitations to the national team.
He explained that the technical crew was working to broaden the available pool of players in preparation for more challenging fixtures later in the qualifying campaign.
“Twenty-eight players were invited, and 27 are in camp, with about 14 first-time invitees. We’re trying to have a very big pool, so that when the games become tougher, we have maybe 40 players to draw from,” he said.
Eguavoen expressed satisfaction with the players’ performances during training and specifically praised Joy Igbokwe, while suggesting that other squad members could also be given playing opportunities against Comoros.
“I’m very pleased with Joy Igbokwe’s performance. Likewise, you might see some other players tomorrow. Performance-wise, the players have been very good,” he stated.
He added that having several players competing for places in the team presented a positive challenge for the coaching staff, particularly as the squad continued to develop depth ahead of future qualifying matches.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the Super Falcons will seek to build on their first-leg advantage by maintaining their discipline, improving their attacking output and securing another victory in their bid to progress in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.
