Eight Games, No Victory: Inter Lagos Part Ways With Coach As Club Sinks To Bottom Of NPFL Table
Inter Lagos head coach Shakiru Giwa has resigned following the club’s disappointing start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The club announced his departure on Tuesday, October 13, through its official X account, making him the first coach to leave his position in the ongoing campaign.
Inter Lagos expressed appreciation for Giwa’s contributions, particularly his role in guiding the team to promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the NPFL.
The club also acknowledged his dedication and commitment, describing his involvement in securing promotion as an important part of its history. It wished him success in his future coaching career.
Giwa’s resignation comes after Inter Lagos failed to record a victory in their opening eight league matches. The newly promoted side have managed just two points and currently occupy the bottom position in the NPFL standings.
Meanwhile, Plateau United goalkeeper Okiemute Odah has urged his teammates to build on their impressive 4-0 victory over Kano Pillars and maintain their momentum in the league.
Plateau United secured the emphatic win at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday, handing Kano Pillars their first defeat of the season.
Paul Samson and Ekundayo Ojo found the net in the first half before Samuel Ayanrinde and Nenrot Silas added two more goals after the break to complete the convincing victory.
Speaking after the match, Odah attributed the result to the collective efforts of the players and coaching staff, expressing optimism about the team’s prospects if they sustain their current performance.
He also appealed to supporters to continue backing the team, assuring them that the players would work hard to deliver results that would make the fans proud.
Plateau United, under the guidance of head coach Gbenga Ogunbote, are currently third in the NPFL table with 14 points from eight matches.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Inter Lagos face the challenge of recovering from their difficult start following Giwa’s departure, while Plateau United will seek to maintain their strong form as the league campaign progresses.
