The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Mujahid Danjuma, over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl in Dass Local Government Area of the state. The command also apprehended two other men over alleged possession of Indian hemp.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, describing them as part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.

According to the police, the case involving Danjuma was reported on September 28 by the victim’s 30-year-old mother, who alleged that the suspect had lured her daughter into an unfinished building in the area on September 25 before sexually abusing her.

The girl was subsequently taken to General Hospital, Dass, where a medical examination reportedly confirmed penetration. The suspect allegedly fled after the incident, prompting police operatives to launch efforts to locate and apprehend him.

Habib said Danjuma was eventually arrested in the early hours of Tuesday following sustained follow-up operations and intelligence-led policing. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, police operatives attached to Duguri Division reportedly arrested two men, identified as 27-year-old Iliyasu Yakubu and 25-year-old Zakariya Ibrahim, during a routine patrol on October 12.

According to the command, Yakubu was allegedly found in possession of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, while Ibrahim was identified as the person who supplied the substance. The suspects were arrested, and the suspected drug was recovered as an exhibit.

The police said all three suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling crime and maintaining public safety across the state. He also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, protect children from potential dangers and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the arrests form part of the Bauchi State Police Command’s ongoing crime-fighting efforts, while investigations into the allegations against the suspects continue.
