Nigeria’s Under-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have arrived in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their opening Group B fixture against Poland at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Head coach Akeem Busari led the 21-player squad from Casablanca to the Moroccan capital following an evening training session. The team subsequently began recovery activities at the Mohammed VI Football Complex as preparations continued for the tournament.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the Flamingos are scheduled to face Poland on Saturday, October 17, at 8 p.m. local time at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.
Nigeria will take on Puerto Rico on October 20 before concluding their group-stage campaign against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on October 23. The tournament is scheduled to run until November 7.
The Nigerian team will be based at the Complexe Sportif Feminin in Rabat, where the players are expected to continue their preparations throughout the competition.
Speaking about the team’s development, Busari explained that the coaching staff had concentrated on identifying promising talents and equipping them with discipline, tactical awareness and a clear understanding of the game.
He emphasised the importance of passion, strength and discipline, adding that the players had received guidance aimed at improving their performance and preparing them for the challenges ahead.
Busari also expressed confidence in the squad’s determination to represent Nigeria on the international stage, stressing that the players were eager to make the country proud.
The coach, however, cautioned against underestimating any opponent, insisting that Nigeria would approach every match with respect and a consistent competitive mindset.
The Flamingos qualified for the tournament after winning the WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup and will be looking to build on Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2022 edition of the competition.
With their arrival in Rabat, attention now turns to their opening encounter against Poland, which will provide the first test of Nigeria’s ambitions in the tournament.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the Flamingos are determined to make a strong start to their campaign and represent Nigeria with pride as they pursue success at the global competition.
