A Nigerian man, Bosun Osagie, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison in the United Kingdom after pleading guilty to hacking a woman’s social media accounts and blackmailing her.

Osagie, 25, was sentenced on Monday, October 12, following an investigation by Merseyside Police into the unauthorised access to the victim’s Snapchat and X accounts.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the case began in February 2023 when police received a report that the woman’s social media accounts had been compromised and her photographs were being used to create fake profiles.

Investigators said the fraudulent accounts were allegedly used to advertise the victim for sexual services, while her images were reportedly offered for sale online. The woman was subsequently subjected to blackmail.

Following extensive investigations, Osagie, who resides on Hartslock Drive in Bexley, London, was arrested and charged in connection with the offences.

He later pleaded guilty to computer hacking and blackmail at an earlier court hearing.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a 10-year restraining order prohibiting Osagie from contacting the victim.

Detective Sergeant Darren Devonport of Merseyside Police said Osagie’s actions had caused significant distress to the woman, noting that he had invaded her privacy before attempting to obtain money through blackmail.

The officer commended the victim for reporting the incident to the police and reiterated the force’s commitment to tackling the possession and distribution of indecent images.

Devonport also expressed hope that Osagie would reflect on the consequences of his actions and the harm caused to the victim during his time in prison.

The case highlights the potential legal consequences of unauthorised access to personal accounts, the misuse of private photographs and online blackmail.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the sentence and restraining order are intended to hold Osagie accountable for the offences and prevent further contact with the victim.
