Why I’m Still Unmarried At 52 — Ruggedman Breaks Silence

Veteran Nigerian rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has opened up about why he remains unmarried at the age of 52, attributing his marital status partly to the demands of his music career and the collapse of a relationship he once believed would lead to marriage.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the rapper made the disclosure during an interview in which he reflected on his journey in the Nigerian music industry, his past relationship experiences and his views on marriage.

Ruggedman explained that he began his career at a time when Nigerian musicians had to rely heavily on hard work and personal determination to establish themselves in the industry. He said the pressure of building a successful music career consumed much of his time, making it difficult for him to settle down.

The rapper noted that some of his colleagues were fortunate to find partners who understood the demands of their profession and were willing to support them through the challenges of their careers.

He cited fellow musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as someone who had found partners willing to share his journey, adding that his own experiences had been different.

Ruggedman also disclosed that he was once involved in a five-year relationship that he expected would culminate in marriage. However, the relationship eventually ended following an incident he chose not to disclose.

Reflecting on the experience, the rapper said the combination of career demands and personal circumstances had contributed to his remaining unmarried.

He further revealed that he is currently not in a relationship but maintained that he has not given up on the possibility of getting married.

Ruggedman stressed that he does not consider himself too old to marry, insisting that finding a life partner remains possible as long as a person is alive.

The rapper also stated that he had made a personal commitment not to have a child outside marriage, underscoring his position on family and relationships.

His comments have offered a glimpse into the personal experiences behind his marital status, while highlighting his belief that marriage can still happen later in life.
