World Food Day 2026: Remi Tinubu Calls For More Investment In Agriculture, Support For Farmers
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased investment in agricultural innovation, stronger support for farmers and the adoption of sustainable farming practices to improve food security and nutrition across the country.
Mrs Tinubu made the appeal in her message commemorating World Food Day 2026, observed on Friday, October 16, under the theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.”
According to Bush Radio Academy, the First Lady stressed the need to combine modern agricultural innovations with traditional farming knowledge to strengthen Nigeria’s food systems and secure a healthier future for generations to come.
She noted that achieving sustainable food security requires collective efforts to improve agricultural productivity, minimise food waste and promote practices that guarantee access to safe and nutritious food for all households.
Mrs Tinubu also emphasised that modern innovations should complement rather than replace indigenous knowledge and traditional agricultural methods that have sustained communities over the years.
“As we observe World Food Day 2026 with the theme, ‘Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow,’ we are reminded of the need to embrace innovation while preserving the traditional knowledge that strengthens our food systems,” she said.
The First Lady further highlighted the vital contributions of Nigerian farmers to national food production and household wellbeing, urging Nigerians to support their efforts and promote responsible food consumption.
She encouraged citizens to embrace sustainable agricultural practices and work collectively towards building a more resilient food system capable of meeting the country’s nutritional needs.
“Let us support our farmers, reduce food waste, and promote sustainable practices that will ensure access to safe and nutritious food for every family,” she added.
Mrs Tinubu expressed optimism that sustained investment in agricultural development, innovation and responsible food management would help Nigeria address its food security challenges.
“With sustained commitment, we can build a food-secure nation and create a healthier future for generations to come,” the First Lady declared.
She wished Nigerians a happy World Food Day 2026, reiterating that ensuring every family has access to adequate, safe and nutritious food requires a shared commitment from individuals, communities and relevant stakeholders.
