Marriage Is Not My Life’s Priority — Bisola Aiyeola Reveals Why She Feels No Pressure to Marry
Actress Bisola Aiyeola has revealed that marriage is not the central focus of her life, insisting that she is thriving and feels no pressure to get married.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the 40-year-old actress made the remarks during an appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, where she explained that she would welcome marriage if the opportunity arose but would not allow it to define her happiness or personal achievements.
Bisola expressed concern about relationships in which women bear the bulk of family responsibilities, including providing financially, raising children and managing the home, while their partners contribute little but still expect to be cared for.
“Women are like, you know what? What’s the point if I still must do everything myself? Why do I have to be tied to this man all in the name of marriage?” she asked.
The actress observed that such unequal arrangements have led some women to question the value of marriage, particularly when they are already handling responsibilities that should be shared between partners.
She acknowledged that marriage remains an important institution in society but maintained that it would not become the defining factor in her life if she eventually chose to marry.
“Marriage is an institution; it is essential for society. For me, if I do get married, it won’t be the core of my life. I mean, I’m doing well,” she said.
Bisola, who is raising her daughter as a single parent, also spoke about the challenges of bringing up a child without a partner. She said the experience has taught her that single parenthood can be demanding and is not something she would encourage her daughter to aspire to.
“Being a single parent and looking after my daughter, I still let her know that being a single parent is not that easy. That’s not what you should aspire to be. Bearing the whole load of raising a child shouldn’t be for one person alone,” she said.
Reflecting on her personal journey and milestone birthday, the actress disclosed that she turned 40 in January and expressed satisfaction with her life at this stage.
“I turned 40 in January. Yeah. I love me so much, and this is the best time of my life,” she added.
Her comments have highlighted ongoing conversations about marriage, shared responsibilities in relationships and the challenges faced by single parents.
