Kwara APC Crisis: Oba AbdulRaheem, Top Political Figures Move To Reconcile Aggrieved Members
Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and elder statesman, Professor Oba AbdulRaheem, is leading a group of prominent Kwara State indigenes in efforts to strengthen support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the group held its inaugural meeting at AbdulRaheem’s residence in Ilorin on September 17, with a commitment to resolving disagreements arising from the party’s primary elections and promoting unity among its members.
AbdulRaheem, a former chairman of the Federal Character Commission, also chairs the Kwara APC Peace Committee.
Other prominent members of the group include Dr Johnson Adewumi, an educationist, entrepreneur and founder of Thomas Adewumi University in Oko; former minister and former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Issa Bio Ibrahim; and former Secretary to the Kwara State Government and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Hon. AbdulGaniyu Cook Olododo.
The group also includes veteran journalist Oloriewe Raheem Adedoyin, who represents Africa on the Executive Board of the International Press Institute; former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Ezekiel Issa; elder statesman and member of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Pastor John Dara; and former Federal Character Commission member, Hon. James Jiya Kolo.
The initiative aims to serve as a voice of conscience within the APC by addressing internal grievances, reconciling aggrieved members and promoting the achievements of the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The group has reportedly begun reaching out to dissatisfied political leaders and influential stakeholders in an effort to build a united front ahead of the forthcoming elections.
It is also seeking the collective support of party stakeholders for Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi as the APC’s preferred governorship candidate, alongside other candidates of the party.
The move comes amid efforts by political stakeholders to manage internal divisions and consolidate the APC’s position in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
