Man City Hit By Injury Blow As Antoine Semenyo Faces Eight Weeks Out

Published

Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo could be sidelined for up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury during the club’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town, while striker Erling Haaland faces a fitness assessment ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League encounter against AEK Athens.

According to Bush Radio Academy, City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Semenyo was expected to spend an extended period recovering from the injury he sustained shortly after coming on as a substitute in the 76th minute of the match.

Although the setback initially raised concerns about the severity of the Ghanaian international’s condition, a subsequent scan reportedly showed that the injury was less serious than first feared.

“After the scan we feel much better because it’s not as bad as we expected,” Maresca said.

“It could be eight weeks, so now the most important thing is for him to recover,” the manager added.

Semenyo’s potential absence represents a setback for Manchester City as they prepare for upcoming domestic and European fixtures. The club will now await further progress in his recovery before determining when he can return to action.

Meanwhile, Haaland’s availability for Tuesday’s Champions League fixture remains uncertain after the Norwegian striker picked up a knock during the victory over Ipswich Town.

The forward was reportedly seen limping after the match, raising concerns about his fitness ahead of City’s European assignment.

However, Maresca expressed optimism about Haaland’s chances of featuring against AEK Athens, explaining that the striker would undergo a fitness assessment during training before a decision was made.

The potential return of Haaland would provide a boost for City as they prepare for the fixture, although his participation will depend on the outcome of the assessment.

With Semenyo facing a possible lengthy spell on the sidelines and Haaland’s condition still being monitored, Manchester City will be hoping for positive developments as they continue their campaign on multiple fronts.
