Laolu Gbenjo Breaks Silence, Begs Toluwanisings Family To End Burial Controversy
Gospel singer Laolu Gbenjo has appealed to the family of late singer Toluwanisings to settle their differences privately and prevent the circumstances surrounding his death and burial from becoming another prolonged public controversy.
Gbenjo made the appeal while speaking at a Night of Tributes held in honour of the deceased, expressing concern over the growing tension surrounding the singer’s burial arrangements. He warned the family against allowing internal disagreements to escalate, drawing comparisons with the controversy that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, whose burial was delayed amid family disputes.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Gbenjo described Toluwanisings as a devoted Christian and urged those involved in the disagreement to respect his memory rather than fuel further controversy.
“Toluwani loved God with all his heart. He was a pure man. Don’t turn Toluwani to Mohbad. Whoever is putting that thing together, that madness must stop. If you don’t have a job, go and get yourself a job. Toluwani, we love you but Jesus loves you more,” the gospel artiste said.
The appeal comes amid an ongoing disagreement between Toluwanisings’ paternal family and his widow, Elizabeth, over where the late musician should be buried. Members of his family reportedly insist that he should be laid to rest at the house he built before his death, while his widow is said to favour burial in a cemetery.
The dispute has been further complicated by a declaration from an uncle of the deceased, who reportedly insisted that the burial should not take place until an autopsy has been conducted to establish the cause of death.
Toluwanisings died on October 14, 2026, after reportedly slumping suddenly. Following his death, his personal assistant alleged that efforts were made to obtain emergency medical treatment, claiming they took him to seven or eight hospitals but were unable to secure the necessary care.
As disagreements over the burial arrangements continue, Gbenjo’s intervention highlights growing concerns among those paying tribute to the late singer that the family’s differences could overshadow his life, faith and musical legacy.
