2027: APC F!res Back At Kwankwaso Over Allegations Against Governor Abba Yusuf
The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged former governor and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to provide verifiable evidence to support his allegation that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is involved in the legal dispute surrounding the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
The ruling party described Kwankwaso’s claims as false and baseless, accusing him of attempting to discredit the APC and its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Kwankwaso had alleged that Governor Yusuf and the APC were behind efforts to prevent Gwarzo from contesting the election after his name was reportedly omitted from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s list of candidates.
However, the APC, through its state chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, denied any involvement by the party or the Kano State Government in the legal proceedings concerning Gwarzo’s candidacy.
Doguwa explained that the case reportedly originated from an internal crisis within the NDC and was instituted by some members of the party against the NDC itself. He maintained that neither the APC nor the Kano State Government initiated the legal action.
The party chairman accused Kwankwaso of attempting to shift attention away from the internal challenges confronting his political camp by linking the APC and Governor Yusuf to the dispute.
Doguwa further challenged the former governor to present credible evidence showing that the APC or the state government sponsored, influenced or facilitated the court proceedings against Gwarzo.
The APC also maintained that the judiciary operates independently and that neither the party nor the governor has the authority to control court proceedings or determine judicial decisions.
It urged political stakeholders to respect the independence of relevant institutions and avoid turning internal party disagreements into unnecessary political confrontations.
The party reaffirmed that every eligible candidate has the constitutional right to participate in the 2027 elections, provided the requirements of the law are met.
It also called on Kano residents to disregard allegations linking the APC and Governor Yusuf to the NDC’s legal dispute, insisting that neither had any direct or indirect role in the proceedings.
