The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has expressed his determination to take decisive action against individuals who commit blasphemy against the Islamic Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah (PBUH). In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, the governor emphasized the need to uphold the dignity and reverence of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in Sokoto, a predominantly Muslim community.
The recent incident involving the murder of a butcher, Usman Buda, over an alleged blasphemous comment was confirmed by the Sokoto State Police Command. Additionally, Buda’s business partners who attempted to intervene were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment. The police have promised to investigate the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable.
The governor’s spokesperson urged all residents to respect and safeguard the dignity of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and abiding by the law. He appealed to the people of Sokoto State to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report any alleged crimes or blasphemy to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
Governor Aliyu stressed that Sokoto State does not tolerate acts that degrade the personality of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). His administration is fully committed to upholding Islamic laws and will deal decisively with anyone found guilty of such offenses. He assured the people of Sokoto State that his government is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all law-abiding citizens.
The governor also cautioned potential troublemakers, warning them that Sokoto is not a conducive environment for their activities. He urged them to reconsider their intentions and align themselves with the principles of peace and respect upheld by the state.
