In a heartbreaking turn of events, Opuofoni Freeborn Ebimotimi, a brilliant first-class graduate of the University of Ibadan, met an untimely demise in the early hours of Sunday. The incident occurred at Honeyhill Tombia in Bayelsa State, where he was allegedly accused of stealing bread.

Hailing from the Korokorosei community of Southern Ijaw Local Government area, Ebimotimi had obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (B.Sc) from the esteemed University of Ibadan.

According to his younger sister, Idisemi Opuofoni Freeborn, neighbors and friends who witnessed the tragic incident rushed to the scene, pleading with the enraged youths to spare his life. They offered to compensate for the stolen bread twofold, hoping to resolve the matter peacefully. However, their pleas fell on deaf ears as the angry mob refused to show mercy and tragically ended his life.

Idisemi shared that their family had been grappling with the harsh realities of life since the passing of their father. She expressed that the relentless struggle for survival had driven her brother to the desperate act of stealing bread out of sheer hunger.

“We are a family of seven, and life has been incredibly challenging since our father’s demise. I wrote the WAEC examinations in 2019, but due to financial constraints, I have been unable to pursue higher education,” Idisemi revealed.
