In addition to President Tinubu, Governors Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara were also reported to have met with the President. The nature of their discussions remains unknown.

This visit by Jonathan comes just a month after his previous visit on June 13. As the Head of the ECOWAS Mediation Team to Mali, Jonathan mentioned that the purpose of his visit was to discuss matters concerning Africa and the West Africa subregion.

“I came to brief the president about some continental and subcontinental bodies,” Jonathan stated while speaking to journalists after leaving the State House. “I am the ECOWAS mediator for Mali, and I am the chair of the West African Elders Forum. So, there are certain issues bordering on the continent and the subregion that I discuss with various presidents.”
