He proposed placing an embargo on Niger, allowing only emergency medical supplies to enter or leave the country, while suspending the supply of electricity from Nigeria on which Niger largely depends.

As part of the “carrot” approach, Omokri recommended offering immunity to the coup plotters if they choose to surrender and allowing the ring leaders to leave the country with a promise of a substantial maintenance allowance.

He emphasized that Nigeria, as a leading member of ECOWAS, has other options apart from military intervention to address the situation in Niger Republic.

Sanctions and diplomatic pressure, he pointed out, had previously proven effective in similar cases, citing the example of President Obasanjo’s successful actions against the coup attempt in São Tomé and Príncipe in 2003.

Through this proposed approach, Omokri believes that Nigeria can play a vital role in restoring democracy and stability to the neighboring African nation.
