In a statement released on July 27, Akpabio clarified that his comment was not meant as an insult to citizens and acknowledged the current hardships faced due to the high cost of living in the country.

He explained that the intention behind the remark was to firmly reject any plans to increase electricity tariffs considering the ongoing economic challenges Nigerians are facing.

Akpabio emphasized his commitment to combating rising electricity costs for the benefit of Nigerian citizens. He assured the public that all matters discussed during Senate sessions are treated with great seriousness, and the primary focus of the current National Assembly is on implementing effective and well-structured policies that truly benefit the people.
