During the screening held by the Senate on Monday, Wike, who was the sole Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominee on the ministerial list, reiterated his commitment to the position. He recalled his successful tenure as the Governor of Rivers State from May 2015 to May 2023, during which he initiated and completed numerous developmental projects, welcoming politicians from all sides to commission these projects.

Wike stated, “Achievements are possible when there is commitment and a passion for the job. Many aspire to become ministers for the sake of prestige or for adding another title to their names. But there are those who are genuinely interested in what they can contribute and whether they are committed to the job.”

He further expressed gratitude towards President Tinubu for his nomination and spoke of the President’s commitment to solving Nigeria’s challenges. “I am certain that Mr. President’s drive to address Nigeria’s problems will motivate us all to lend our unwavering support. I can assure you that if confirmed, regardless of my capacity, Mr. President will not regret nominating me,” he added.

Wike’s previous ministerial experience includes serving in the cabinet of former President Goodluck Jonathan. His nomination and capacity were confirmed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the screening, after which Wike was asked to bow and leave, acknowledging his competence and readiness to deliver in office.
