Russia’s warning comes in response to ECOWAS members’ decision to deploy an immediate standby force to Niger Republic, with the aim of restoring ousted President Mohamed Bazoum to power.

The ministry also indicated that such an intervention could trigger destabilization across the entire Sahara-Sahel region.

Reacting to this development, Omokri took to Twitter to question Russia’s audacity in issuing a warning to ECOWAS regarding the Niger coup situation.

He pointed out the apparent double standards, suggesting that African leaders did not meddle in international affairs when Russia invaded Ukraine and Crimea.

He further questioned why Russia was involving itself in West African matters, highlighting the inconsistency of its stance considering Russia’s own reactions to coup attempts within its territory.

Omokri emphasized the need for African leaders to assert their sovereignty and resist undue external interference, calling for a focus on addressing regional challenges without external intervention.
