He also labeled Aregbesola and other participants as individuals whose affiliation with the party is uncertain.
Notably, on Tuesday, Aregbesola unveiled the ‘Omoluabi’ caucus within the APC. He clarified that this initiative is not intended as a faction, but rather as a gathering of like-minded individuals within the party in Osun State.
The caucus comprises members selected from all 332 wards in the state, each represented by five representatives from their respective local government areas.
Reacting to Aregbesola’s action, Basiru conveyed in a phone conversation with The Nation that the concept of a caucus is not recognized as an official structure within the APC’s constitution.
He characterized the newly established group as a personal construct that doesn’t align with the party’s organizational framework.
Basiru further cautioned party members against associating with the newly formed caucus, emphasizing that it deviates from the recognized structure of the APC.
He advised genuine members of the party to exercise caution in relation to individuals who might not have a clear affiliation with the party’s principles and organization.
As divisions and new initiatives emerge within the APC, the party leadership’s response highlights the importance of adhering to established structures while addressing concerns of unity and cohesion.
