Apapa had underlined his authority as acting national chairman, citing a court order that restrained others from assuming the roles of national officers within the party.

He emphasized that the party, under his leadership, communicated with INEC to reschedule the primary election dates, which were originally set by a different group. Despite this, the opposing faction, led by Abure, proceeded to conduct primaries on the previously scheduled dates for the states mentioned.

Reacting to Apapa’s declaration on Twitter, Bashir Ahmad commended the LP chairman’s decision. He stressed that such actions exemplify the essence of democracy.

Ahmad noted, “Comrade Lamidi Apapa, the legitimate national chairman of the Labour Party, has explicitly stated that only candidates endorsed by him will be allowed to participate in the upcoming Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo governorship elections. This showcases yet another remarkable facet of democracy.”

Earlier, it was reported that the Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State, affirmed Apapa’s position as the genuine National Chairman of the party.

The court ruled against the faction led by Julius Abure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge the governorship candidates put forward by Apapa’s faction for the impending election.
