President Bola Tinubu is slated to deliver an address before an assembly of global leaders at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) high-level General Debate, held at the UN headquarters in New York.

Commencing on September 5, the UNGA 78 will inaugurate its new President, Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago, who will hold the position for the ensuing 12 months.

The central theme of the high-level General Debate, scheduled from September 19 to 29, revolves around the re-establishment of trust and the revitalization of global solidarity, with an emphasis on expediting efforts towards achieving the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals, ultimately steering the world towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all….CONTINUE READING

 

According to the speakers’ roster from the General Assembly President’s office, Luiz da Sliva, the President of Brazil, will traditionally be the inaugural speaker, followed by the U.S. President, Joe Biden, representing the host nation.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver his speech during the afternoon session at approximately 6 pm (11 pm Nigerian time), positioning him as the fifth African leader to speak on the opening day. Among the twenty leaders scheduled to address the assembly on the initial day, Tinubu holds the fourteenth slot.

The morning session of the Assembly will feature South African President Cyril Ramaphosa as the first African speaker. Subsequently, during the afternoon session, five African leaders, including Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Moroccan leader Aziz Akhannouch, Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi, and Senegalese President Macky Sall, will each share their perspectives with the global audience.
