Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has emphasized the unwavering determination of the Nigerian Army under his leadership to confront and resolve the challenges affecting troop operations in the ongoing mission to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.
During an operational visit to the North East Theatre of Operation (OPHK) at Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, General Lagbaja spoke to journalists on Friday, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to addressing these challenges.
He noted that the Nigerian Army has received substantial support from President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa. Expressing concern about the rising incidents of kidnappings, banditry, and the planting of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) by terrorists on highways, General Lagbaja indicated confidence in swiftly addressing these new trends.
Regarding his visit to Borno, he explained that since assuming office on June 23 this year, he had previously visited the theatre to celebrate Eid-El Kabir with the troops. This time, he returned for an operational visit.
General Lagbaja further shared that he had been briefed by the Theatre Commander on operational, administrative, and security matters.
His primary purpose during this visit was to interact with troops personally to gain firsthand insights into the challenges faced by formations and units, intending to promptly address them.
He also took the opportunity to commission a newly constructed two-story building providing accommodation for 30 families of Corporals and below within the Nigerian Army, with the allocation of units to beneficiaries and their families.
