Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, has taken steps to potentially resolve the crisis between himself and Governor Godwin Obaseki and others by submitting a letter to withdraw his lawsuit.
In a statement personally issued by Shaibu, he expressed his decision to withdraw the lawsuit as a gesture of respect for the interventions made by various individuals, including religious figures, prominent Edo residents, and traditional leaders. The statement read as follows: “Re: SUIT NO. FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023 Between: – Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu and Inspector General of Police, State Security Service, The Governor of Edo State, and The Chief Judge of Edo State.
“Following a series of meetings with me and Mr. Governor, involving well-meaning Edolites and Nigerians, including Party Leaders, Traditional Rulers, and Archbishop His Grace Most Rev’d Dr. Augustine Akubeze, the Archbishop of Benin Archdiocese, regarding the issues that led to my legal action in the above-named suit, and out of respect for these distinguished personalities and leaders who have urged me towards this decision, I, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, have instructed my Solicitors to promptly withdraw the lawsuit.
“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to these well-meaning Nigerians, Party Leaders, Traditional Rulers, and Archbishop His Grace Most Rev’d Dr. Augustine Akubeze for their supportive words, counsel, and encouragement in the pursuit of peace and unity in our beloved Edo State. I also wish to express my gratitude to Mr. Governor, my boss, and elder brother, for choosing the path of peace.”
