Nigerian Air Force Announces Successful Airstrikes On 30 Illegal Refineries In Rivers State

These operations were carried out as part of the efforts of the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), a collaborative military initiative aimed at combatting oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism within the Niger Delta region.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the spokesperson for the NAF, disclosed this information in a statement released on Sunday, September 17.
He underscored that the most recent airstrikes, executed over the weekend in Cawthorne Channel and Bille, situated within Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, resulted in the identification and obliteration of seven illegal refining sites.
Gabkwet elaborated, stating, “In Cawthorne Channel, four active illegal refining sites featuring dug-out reservoirs and surface storage tanks suspected to contain illegal refined products were observed on September 15, 2023. Subsequently, these sites were destroyed.”
He further detailed that similar airstrikes were carried out in Bille on September 16 and the early hours of September 17, 2023. During these operations, three illegal oil refining sites, complete with storage tanks and reservoirs, were effectively eliminated.
