Anambra Governor Urges State Contingent To National Youth Games To Be Exemplary Ambassadors

Governor Soludo’s message to the team was delivered by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, at their Bishop Obiefuna Retreat Centre camp in Awka just before their departure for Asaba on Wednesday.

Soludo emphasized that the athletes should strive for excellence in their respective sports and exhibit exemplary character. He encouraged them to respect and follow their coaches’ guidance and to compete as the champions they are.

He stated, “Anambra is the light of the nation. Anambra is known for excellence. Be ambassadors of the State and see yourselves as torchbearers.

It is important that you compete well; It is important that you win medals, but importantly, you must be exemplary in character because that is what Anambra is known for.”

Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for his support to the sports sector since taking office.

He highlighted that approximately 80 percent of the team consisted of emerging athletes discovered during the Anambra School Sports Festival held between May and June this year.

Onyedum characterized the team as youthful and hardworking, expressing confidence that their performance in this competition would surpass previous outings.

He also announced a personal reward of N50,000 for any returning medalist at the competition as an additional motivation for the team.

The Anambra team comprises 128 athletes and 45 officials and will participate in 18 sports, including Athletics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Chess, Cricket, Boxing, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Traditional Sport (kokowa), Scrabble, Swimming, Rugby, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Weightlifting.
