Nigeria, September 2023 – The already tempestuous relationship between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his estranged wife, Taiwo, has grown even more volatile. Following a recent public disclaimer from Obasanjo challenging her mental health and marital status, Taiwo fired back with a scathing rebuttal.
The controversy began with Obasanjo’s statement at Iseyin, Oyo state, during which he rebuked some Yoruba traditional rulers. Taiwo promptly issued a public plea for forgiveness on behalf of the ex-president, prompting his harsh disclaimer against her.
Obasanjo, through his media assistant, denied Taiwo’s claims of being his wife, questioning her sanity and labeling her an “impostor.”

She further lambasted him for his disrespectful behavior towards Yoruba kings and begged for their forgiveness, emphasizing her fears for potential reprisals against her and her children due to Obasanjo’s actions.
