Senator Anyanwu made this assertion during a meeting with his campaign team, the Divine Mandate Movement (DMM), at the party’s secretariat located along Okigwe road in Owerri.
He argued that the Imo Charter of Equity, which was initiated during the tenure of former Governor Emeka Ihedioha, had been allegedly undermined by the current Governor, Hope Uzodimma. Anyanwu contended that if Uzodimma genuinely believed in the Imo Charter of Equity, he should have allowed Ihedioha to complete his term in office.
Echoing this sentiment, former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, in his conversation with journalists in Owerri, criticized the document, stating that it fell short of certain expectations, which made it challenging to gain acceptance among the populace.
According to Senator Anyanwu, “The Imo Charter of Equity was conceived during Ihedioha’s administration, and we are determined to reinstate it. Uzodimma’s actions have allegedly damaged it, yet he continues to mention the Charter of Equity. If he truly believed in it, he should have respected Ihedioha’s tenure and allowed it to run its course.”
He also encouraged the people of Imo to exercise their voting rights without fear, emphasizing that the PDP is poised to win both the governorship and deputy governorship positions in the forthcoming election. Anyanwu assured them that their votes would count and that he would address any challenges or attempts to intimidate voters.
He further commented on the state of local governments, highlighting the absence of local government chairpersons and councillors. He raised concerns about job creation in such a situation and pledged to govern Imo from within the state, focusing on its unique needs and aspirations.
“When the PDP was in power, there was progress,” Anyanwu stated. “I will lead Imo from within Imo State, not from an external location.”
The upcoming election on November 11 is anticipated to be a significant turning point in Imo State politics, with the PDP aiming to regain control of the Government House.
